Teaching EFL in a Kindergarten If we want to teach children English, we should answer the question How should we teach EFL to children at Kindergarden?.. ”We should keep in mind that children are always energetic, bored quickly because the poor attention span.So we also we have to know some important things before enter the class. We can plan an entire week of lessons or a full month, but we have to have a lesson plan for every class.because preparation is essential, mostly. If we teach English to young students by playing game, we’ll need to gather lots of teaching materials. These materials will be: *a pair of dice *flashcards *blank bingo sheets (that can be filled in by students with either words or pictures) *small toys – balls in several sizes, toy vehicles, animals, etc... *bean bags *puppets *real objects-fruits,vegetables,etc… Young ESL students have strengths and weaknesses. We also need to know these styles of teaching or multiples intelligences, namely Visual - spatial, Logical – Mathematical, Bodily – Kinesthetic, Musical – Rhythmic, Intra-Personal, Inter-Personal, Naturalist, and Spiritual. The best way to take advantage of their strengths and help them learn effectively. If i give some examples: •For musical – rhythmic intelligence learners, teaching an ESL element with a song, like Rock Around the Clock for telling time. •For bodily – kinesthetic intelligence learners, teaching body parts with a game of Simon Says, or head shoulder knees and toes. •For visual – spatial intelligence learners, using maps, charts, and all types of visual aids. In this way we should keep them motivated. So we should find out what does interest them. What kind of music do they like? What do they enj oy reading, watching? What sports do they play? And also Lessons should be planned in accordance with learning goals. And vocabulary, grammar, and language should be taught in context. For example when we teach students food it should be within a meal context like breakfast, lunch or dinner. If i give example,We can ask to students:Do you like cheese, butter, honey at the breakfast? We avoid list of items students must study or memorize.Because it is not best way to learn English for students. The more complex elements (music,song,dance...) we use, the more effective and efficient learning we can achieve. If i need to teach students animals such as cat, dog, snake i play matching game with flashcards with students. This is a challenging, but fun game that kindergarten kids love playing. we make cards that are in pairs. Then, we place the cards facedown and the first student has to pick two cards. Turn them over, and if they’re a match, they get to keep them. If not, turn them over in the same spot and the next student goes. It is just an example game.Of course there are creative, fun ,different games we play with students in the lesson.in other words, as I mentioned above, these are also important: -Use hands-on activities that get students moving around the classroom -Avoid talking and lecturing for long periods -Use lots of interaction -Review always -Give gentle correction of errors -Explore many different topics -Use lots of praise -Reinforce positive behaviour As a result We should not forget that young learners always want to learn by fun learning.
