Education is essential to everyone of all ages but not all learners have the same level. Some can receive quickly, some others can not. Students who normally spend more time learning a new thing really need the considerable attention from the teacher. If they can not receive the significant attention, they will fail in learning, resulting to failure in their tests. That is the reason why slower learners need to join a class individually with a teacher. One-to-one classes are a bit particular for both learners and teachers, consisting of advantages and disadvantages. First of all, one to one teaching offers more flexibility to both learners and teachers because one-to-one teaching can be popularly conducted at teacher’s home, at learner’s home, in a cafe or even in a library. One to one teaching is not only suitable to slow learners but also to people who are too busy to go to school or can not attend regular classes due to some specific reasons. Dates and times of the lessons can be adjusted in order to meet learner or teacher’s personal schedule. Teachers can also set up an outdoor learning activity which is extremely beneficially for learning English. Teacher and learner can go shopping together, visiting a museum or a thempark. Outdoor activities can help learners memorize much more easily. In case a learner is absent for some reason, the lesson will not be interupted. With the nowadays’ modern technology, teachers can use their cellphones, ipads, laptops to listen to audio files, to watch movies or to play games online together. All is for learning. The second advantage of one to one teaching is the interaction between teachers and learners. It is the ideal environment where learners feel that they are heard. In this environment, teachers pay more attention to learners, since then learners can show all their abilities as well as their weakness that need helped by teachers. Learners can give questions and they are responsible for answering all the questions by teacher. If the learner do not understand a certain lesson, he can ask the teacher for a further explanation. They do not have to pretend to understand. It helps reduce the stress on them. In contrary to group learning where weaker learners normally rely on the stronger ones, in one to one classes, learners will have to face with the matters themselves which help them make progress and raise their confidence in learning English. Sole attention from teachers can keep learners more interested in the subjects than listening to a teacher giving lectures in front of the classroom. Furthermore, teachers can decide the difficult level of the lessons, thenceforth step by step increasing learners’ level. Third of all, teachers can follow learners’ learning style easily. Each learner has a different learning style: a visual learner, an auditory learner, a verbal learner, a kinesthetic learner, a tactile learner, a logical learner, a social learner or a solitary one. Teachers can select an appropriate teaching methodology with what can help develop learners’ interests and abilities. Moreover, it is effective for teachers to decide the materials and prepare well for the lessons based on learners’ learning styles. On top of those mentioned, teachers can practice and raise their teaching skills by learning through each lesson giving learners, a two-way-street. However, paralel to the advantages are a few disadvantages which teachers have to deal with in individual classes. Firstly, learners may fail to grow up their team work skills as they interact with teachers only during the lessons. One to one learners neither have a chance to make a plan nor organise in each lesson. Learners’ lessons actually depend on teachers’ intention. In grouping classes, learners can communicate to each other, thence developing their communication skills as well as the ability to build a rapport with other people both in class and outside. Furthermore, persuasion and influencing skills are among the vital skills that single leaners have few chances to obtain when they learn individually. Grouping classes give learners the opportunity to chair a lesson whereas individual learners can not find those. Acting as a chair helps learners have an overall view on the situation, keep a balance between hearing other people and getting through the job. Working individually has less chance for learners to get the confidence and cooperation. Secondly, one to one classes easily become boring in case teachers lack of confidence and experiences in changing the types of activity. Boredom is one of the most fearful enemies of a sucessful lesson. Boredom often comes when little interaction takes place. In one to one classes, students spend most of their time sitting, interacting with no one other than the teachers, foreseeing what will happen next etc.,. Sometimes, the teacher makes the very simple, become complicated; sometimes, they make something very interesting, uninteresting. Many teachers have tried to show themselves as professionals by making their instructions more complicated that students can not get to know. Actually, teachers’ job is to do the opposite, meaning to give simple and clear instructions, make it easier for students to approach. Another disadvantage is that any worker works for income to survive. If teachers decide to follow the one to one class as it is hard to arrange enough individual classes to make a huge profit. One to one classes offer a certain wage and teachers have seven days per week only. As a result, even though the teachers spend the whole week working, they can not make a lot of money. A teacher who wishes to attract students to join his one to one classes must take the tutoring charge into consideration as one of the key success. Finally, teachers may find it difficult to provide learners with suitable materials and activities. Normally, groups teaching is easy for teachers to prepare materials and activities. In group teaching classes, teachers can ask learners to work in pairs, work in groups of 3 or 4, simple to set up and learners are usually excited, then the class atmosphere seems to be vibrant. However, for one to one classes, teachers must exert all their strength to think of activities which can make learners feel attractive and to find suitable materials in accordance with the topic. This can cause rather great pressures on the teachers. After all, one to one classes are not simple, especially for young and unexperienced teachers. Nevertheless, they deserve to gain fruits from the difficulties, provided that they always try their best to learn everlasting in their teaching career.
