For a long time I have been frustrated about how native english speakers ?know english?, but in many cases are unable to teach it to EFL students because native speakers do not really know the ?rules? of the language, but merely how to use it. In addition to educational theory, the ITTT course has also taught me many rules and mechanics of english grammar, and has allowed me to better grasp the many intricacies and exceptions of english. For many reasons, ranging from cultural familiarity to differences in brain pattern analyses, using english to teach english in japan still remains elusive to public school students, appearing only in private sector conversation schools. Because of how the system works in japan, I have always tried to maximize the benefits of teaching english using the availability of both english and japanese tools, and (having been raised bilingually when I was young, and now functionally trilingual,) have always tried to emphasize the benefits of bilingualism (code switching and grammar/vocabulary merging, for example) rather than full english immersion that many students usually expect and many TEFL certification courses (including ITTT) teach. Having said that, this ITTT course has also shown me the benefits of using english to teach english, and despite any possible initial frustration that may come from either the students or teacher, I would like to apply some of these theories to my future classes.
