The most valuable thing I?ve gained from the tefl course is confidence. I now have the skills, tools, and ability to walk into a classroom of students and effectively gauge their language level and structure lessons and activities accordingly. I have developed a wide range of creative ideas regarding different activities and games that can be fun and engaging for students, but that are still effective in teaching and communicating english language skills. The units that I have completed as part of this course will be useful to me as I grow and develop as a teacher; I can certainly see myself continually referencing the material as I encounter different student needs and varying classroom environments. I?ve learned how effective simple tools are, like classroom boards and visual aids, and have also learned that expressing and projecting energy and enthusiasm to the students can make a huge difference in the students? willingness to learn (especially in terms of their level of motivation). I also feel confident in my knowledge of english grammar. As a native speaker of english, I don?t often sit back and consider the rules of the grammar I use on a daily basis (which would make it incredibly difficult to teach). Now, however, I feel I can effectively communicate these grammar rules and provide appropriate activities and examples to support what I?m teaching.
