Having no prior teaching experience I accepted work as a Substitute Teacher at an elementary school on a US military base in japan. The material I studied in the 120 hour course have been an invaluable resource in the areas of 'Classroom Management', 'Teaching special groups' as students come from households where english is the second, or third language. The tefl course has given me the tools necessary for my work, and gaining employment outside of the military with private tutoring, and the occasional grammar and phonetic questions from the local japanese while riding on trains, or the local markets. The course is intensive, and worth every minute I spent studying, completing the worksheets, and the cost of the program. With certification I plan on utilizing it while traveling through Asia, and when back in the states seeking out schools that have openings in the ESL department.
