TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - TEFL Video Journal - Week 4
In this ITTT video former trainee Ben talks about his experiences during the final week of his four week TEFL/TESOL certification course and what he plans to do now that he has gained his teaching qualification.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
Before a speaking lesson we need to define what we want the students to do and why - what's the purpose? We need to check their understanding and ask if I need to pre-teach vocabulary. (I like this since this give the students tools for the exercise.) Prepare materials and instructions. There are many creative and steadfast games that can be incorporated in learning. I like the examples of cartoon character that have to 'fill in the bubble' for speech and descriptive dialogue. Accuracy involves the correct use of grammar and language. Fluency is the ability to speak without interruption. This unit includes a variety elements. The first part of the unit is about first meetings (level and needs analysis) and syllabus design. On the other hand, the second part deals with assessment, examinations, and evaluations. I think the explanation about syllabus design is crucial because it helps to put your ideas about the course content into action. In order to do this, you need first to organize the content, and that is what syllabus design is all about. In addition, what makes this part of the unit so valuable is the interesting example of a real syllabus that the explanation provides.
