This unit covers talks about teaching receptive skills, and what we as teachers need to be aware of and conscientious about when teaching those skills. Receptive skills, which consist of two of the four language learning skills are: reading and listening. The utilization of our receptive skills occurs either out of purpose or for entertainment, or sometimes a combination of both. There are five specialized skills that makeup our two receptive skills: prediction, scanning, skimming, deduction and focus on detailed information. As a teacher of language it is important to choose interesting topics and selecting appropriate material when we attempt to engage the receptive skills of students.
