This lesson taught me to vary the use of materials presented in my classroom. While authentic materials are useful in establishing confidence in my students, inauthentic materials are still necessary to provide the structure and fluency they need to obtain in order to progress in the language. I learned of neat activities to use, such as a telephone flash card role play, in order to engage students in fluency-based learning and build their understanding of the material. I learned how to use the textbook in different ways to suit the needs of my class, as well as how to select the perfect textbook if the opportunity arises.
