I enjoyed the lesson demonstrations, although the first was very painful to watch and made me very conscious of the fact that I have likely run a class in a similar manner – more than one. But that is one of the purposes of this exercise and for that I am thankful that it has made me more reflective. Both videos were very helpful, and I am happy to take away both the good and negative observations with hopes of making my teaching method more positive. The biggest criticism which I have is that the videos are specific to the teaching of students who have a good verbal command of English but who are now needing to learn the more complex elements of the grammar construct. My recent and current teaching duties are focused on beginner students who range from zero to very rudimentary language ability. I would recommend giving multiple videos for learners to choose from whereby each pair is more closely aligned with the age/level of the classrooms the TEFL teacher is already, or expecting to, teach.
