This was a very exciting unit for me to take part in because I am already employed as an English Composition instructor and I often have several ESL students in my class. Having not been formerly trained in TEFL studies and how to be effective in the classroom, I have sometimes struggled in ensuring my ESL students are getting what they need from my course. This unit gave wonderful insights into what activities might help me out in my own classroom, and in particular I greatly appreciated it establishing a hierarchy for what is important in writing skills. Most of my students have to present their work in an electronic format (typed) but the problems that I have had with grammar, spelling, and punctuation remain. I have a slightly better idea on how to deal with these issues as they arise, and how to incorporate a more effective lesson flow so that ALL of my students can stay engaged and get what they need.
