Unit 7 discusses four aspects that students must learn when they are becoming familiar with new vocabulary: exposure, meaning, structure and practice. Each of these aspects relates to the ESA stages. For example, during the engage stage students can be exposed to words and their meaning through visual aids and dynamics. In the study stage, students can further be exposed to how the vocabulary is structured through gap filling activities and crossword puzzles. Finally, in the activate stage, students can practice and produce the language through activities such as role-play, and/or pared, small group or class discussions.
