Unit 14 presented some of the advantages and disadvantages of using different types of lesson materials and course-books in the classroom. I learned about the differences between authentic and created lesson materials, and which kinds are more appropriate to students of different language levels. The unit also provided me with guidelines for utilizing and implementing materials from course-books in the classroom; overall, it emphasized the need to approach books critically and to selectively employ ready-made materials (while supplementing them with other/created materials geared toward students' interests) when teaching.
