Tailoring your teaching to your students is a vital part of teaching. Obviously the way we teach young children and adults will differ tremendously. Younger learners may need more activities to keep their attention, while older students may need the teacher to talk to them more at their level. I think teachers need to keep in mind, however, that both of these tactics (and others), would work to some degree on any ages, so teachers shouldn't, for example, expect older students to completely take charge of their own learning, and may need encouragement from the teacher in the same or similar way to that of younger students.
