This unit covers the subject of modal auxiliary verbs, passive voice, as well as it briefly discusses relative clauses and phrasal verbs. Modal verbs are often difficult for the students as they can be used in many different situations. They are used to express: obligation, possibility, permission, prohibition, ability, and advice. In the passive, the object of the active voice becomes the subject of the passive voice or it can be completely dropped. There are some verbs that can not be used in the passive voice, these are so-called intransitive verbs. Examples of such verbs include: happen, sleep, come, seem, and etc.
