The two videos in this unit showed stark differences between unsuccessful and successful lessons. From watching the videos, I learned that having a positive attitude, showing students you care (learning their names), using gestures and mimes for clarification, using well known topics (animals, food), walking around the room to monitor student progress, and using pictures and examples are either helpful or necessary to conduct a lesson in an environment that makes students want to actively participate. Teaching with a poor attitude, not being clear, and making inappropriate comments will hinder students' desire to learn.
