1.Why should we have lesson plan? Lesson plan is a step by step guide that help the teacher in maintaining a standard teaching pattern and does not let the class deviate from the topic. It also helps the teacher keep on target and gives something to refer during the lesson. 2.What are the principles of a good lesson plan? -Keep it simple -Do not try to scripts the lesson, keep it short and clear. -Timing the activity in the margin -Check for balance of skill, -Keep it flexible and open to adaption. 3.What should included in a lesson plan? -Learner objectives: this is what you want your students to achieve by the end of the lesson. -Personal aim: What the teacher want to achieve, how effective of the lesson and what area need to improve. -Language point: -Teaching aids: the materials what you need during the lesson. Procedure: the activities used to achieve the learner objectives. -Phase: engage -study-active -Timing: the teacher should know how long for each activity. -Interaction: teacher and student -Class level: helps the teacher know the class ‘s ability. 4. Example of a lesson plan: This is my lesson plan for my class: Lesson plan Unit Starter: Welcome back ! – Lesson 1 & 2 -Teacher: Thuong -Class level: 3A -Book: Academy stars 2 - Objectives: At the end of lesson, the students will be able to: a. Vocabulary: - understand and identify words to describe people in terms of height, age, hair colour, eye colour, abilities, likes - recall learned words relating to food, clothes, family, objects at the park b. Structure: memorize structures to describe appearance, abilities and interest. He's / She's ... He's got ... / She's got ... My name is ... I'm ... I've got ... I can + infinitive ... I like ... There's / There are ... c. Pronunciation: pronounce words correctly -Teaching aids:flashcards, board, markers, books. -Procedure 1.Time: 10mins Phase: engage: Teacher’s activities Game Mix and Match: • Get Student to walk around the room • Call out a number 4; 6 etc. whereupon the people have to get into ‘clumps’ of that number. Anyone left out cannot continue playing. • Ask the class to move again, and call out a different number and so on • When there is a winner or everyone seems bored, have the winner(s) request the losers to do something fun as punishment. Students’ activities: Play the game 2.15mins: Study Phase:Study: teaching vocabulary: Teacher’s activities: a. Introduction: Meet the Academy Stars. Play audio 1.1. Review words to describe people: height, age, hair colour, eye colour, abilities, likes Ask Ss: “Who’s got a sister? What color are Kristy’s eyes?” etc. Invite some Ss to answer. b. Game: Who’s that? Divide Ss into 2 teams (=2 lines). Write names of 4 characters on the board. T ask questions about the characters. Each player/team run to the board and slap the correct name. The team’s got 1 star for each correct answer. Students’ activities: Listen to the audio. Point at characters as they speak Answer the questions -Time: 10mins: Phase: Activate: Teacher’s activities: a) Exercise 1 (point at the board) Teacher asks: “Can you find these things/people in your book? What/Who are they?” Now complete Exercise 1. Teacher make suggestions if Students don’t know what to write. Eg: “I see sand. Does ‘sand’ begin with b? or s?” After that, T corrects all answers. b) Exercise 2: T ask: “How many flowers can Grandma see?” Ss answer: “Eight.” T: “Correct. So you see the word ‘eight’ in Number 1. Now complete Number 2-5” Ss finish the exercise. T checks their answers. Students’ activities: Do exercises
