The divide between authentic, inauthentic, and course books is one I hadn?t previously considered. However, now I?ve learned that authentic materials involve language as it naturally occurs, and thus logically would make for more interesting lessons, and are thus more beneficial to the language learning process. Students would feel like what they are learning is relevant to the broader world and would thus be more motivating for them. This should, however, be tempered with the advantages of course books, namely having a set syllabus and exercises pre set. A good teacher, in reflection, utilizes all materials.
