This unit was very helpful. I appreciated the overview of many methods of language teaching, and I agree with this course's creators that the ESA method seems like the most useful in teaching students effectively, keeping student engagement high, and maximizing student talk time. I liked the concrete examples of straight-arrow plans, boomerang plans, and patchwork plans, and I plan on changing my own lessons to make sure they incorporate all stages of Engage, Study, and Activate. I'm eager to learn more as this course progresses, particularly about Activate activities that can be done with very unruly 6th graders.
