This unit discussed the teaching of new language, including tips about teaching vocabulary, grammatical structures, and language functions. Examples were given for ESA lessons that incorporate these things, and we were encouraged to build our own. The specific things that students need to learn about each new vocabulary word and grammatical structure provide a great check list to think about when putting together a new lesson plan. Thinking about language functions reminded me that it isn't enough to learn a language's vocabulary and grammar. Communication is often specific to the appropriateness of the language used.
