This unit presented a good overview of the use of course books and the various types of materials used when teaching English as a foreign language. I found the part of the chapter dealing with the need to consider the level of the students when selecting materials for use to be a very important point. In my experience it is something which is not always adhered to as closely as it should be. In my work with students who range widely in age and ability level, I Intend to do a better job of more carefully developing materials that can supplement the course book rather than relying on it for the majority of my lessons.
