This unit provides a general overview of the possible ways of teaching reading and listening skills and the problems that are likely to occur. Of these, I find the part regarding different criteria for selecting the most appropriate text the most useful because I have always encountered a lot of difficulties when presenting authentic text to pre-intermediate students who need to sit for challenging English exams at school but lack the level of proficiency to produce the correct answer. This means that I have to teach them how to read authentic texts, but then I should put in more effort into searching the kind of authentic text that best suits my students, while having them engaged throughout the lesson.
