I found that I already employ many of the techniques suggested in this unit for using the textbook in moderation with teaching. I've found that many times the textbook is completely outdated or contains a lot of uninteresting or useless information, so I've had to supplement the lessons greatly by making my own materials or coming up with authentic materials for students to use in lieu of the text/workbook they always use. I believe that my fellow English teachers aren't as creative and only repetitively use the textbooks, so students greatly welcome the change of pace and are far more motivated and engaged in learning as a result.
