First vs Second Language Acquisition G.C. Van Der Watt - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT
INTRODUCTIONHow did you learn to speak your native language' Notice, this shouldn´t be such a puzzling question. Do you remember when you learned to tie your shoes, ride a bike, and eat with a fork' Sometimes we can remember a parent helping us to do these things. But have our parents helped us learn to speak our first language' Do you remember when your mother taught you the past tense' When your father laid down the rules for passive sentences' We don´t remember these important moments of our childhood because they never occurred. Sometimes we as adults study for years to acquire a new language. It is then quite wonderful to think that children, by around the age of 5, have more or less mastered their first language, excepting some vocabulary and a few grammatical... [Read more]

Spanish vs. English Sonya Duresky - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT
One of the biggest issues facing the United States is the number of immigrants coming to the US from Mexico and Central America. With the large number of immigrants flowing across the border, the problem of language has arisen. Throughout the US’ history, the issue of what language should be spoken has been real. My father grew up in a Polish community. While he was in elementary school, he would be punished if he spoke any Polish. Today, across America, we are seeing this same sort of problem with Spanish speakers. Many people believe that schools should be “English-only,†and that immigrants and their children should only speak English if they decide to come to this country. Arizona and California have both passed laws banning bilingual education,... [Read more]

How are in-class TEFL courses affected by COVID-19? - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT TEFL & TESOL
Our courses have been running wherever possible during COVID-19. Training centers in many countries re-opened several months ago. If you are already in the country where the course is taking place then you should be fine, but the main problem with most locations seems to be incoming flight restrictions.
The main effect on in-class courses came earlier in the year when schools and group gatherings weren't permitted by local governments. Students were able to switch to later dates, other locations, or they completed the observed teaching practice online with the assistance of our TEFL trainers.
The main difficulty facing anyone looking to take a course is their eligibility to travel and the current quarantine procedures. It's business as usual in many countries with the... [Read more]

How do I apply for a student visa to legally teach English in Spain? - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT TEFL & TESOL
As Spain is a member of the EU, language schools generally prefer to hire teachers from fellow EU countries as they do not need to go through the hassle of applying for a work visa. However, this doesn't stop thousands of non-EU citizens from coming to Spain each year to work as English language teachers. Many of these simply enter on a tourist visa and technically work illegally. While this is common practice and rarely has any negative consequences, there is an alternative for those who want to live and work in Spain. By enrolling on a study course (typically a Spanish language course), teachers can apply for a student visa that also allows them to legally work a certain number of hours per week.
To start the process you should visit your nearest Spanish Consulate at least... [Read more]

How do I apply for a student visa to legally teach English in Europe? - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT TEFL & TESOL
For non-EU citizens who want to teach English in Europe it can be a frustrating experience when it comes to getting a work visa. Due to this frustration, many teachers decide to work with only their initial tourist visa in their passport. Although this is technically illegal, it is a widespread practice in some of the most popular destinations such as France, Italy and Spain, and it rarely causes any problems. However, if this approach does not appeal to you, a student visa might be the answer. By enrolling in a local language course, you get to learn French, Italian or Spanish, while also being free to legally work as an EFL teacher for a certain number of hours each week.
It is recommended that you allow a minimum of four weeks for the application to be processed. You should also... [Read more]

I continued to study French at school, but in a completely different approach. The lessons were carried out in English and we studied the French news and French current affairs. I learnt a lot more complicated vocabulary and was able to form more complex sentences. I also studied beginner Spanish at school. From the first class, we were only allowed to speak Spanish. Among the tens of thousands of ESL teachers working overseas, it is relatively common to find friends or couples who set off to teach English abroad together. Although it is common practice, there are still a few things to think about before you both pack your bags and head to the airport.
