Can I teach English with just a TEFL certificate? - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT TEFL & TESOL
We should start by acknowledging that there are some countries where a degree is required for certain teaching jobs. However, even within these countries there are often opportunities for teachers without a degree. In such situations you would need to be more flexible in terms of the type of job and conditions. As we will see later, undertaking volunteering or internship programs are examples of such flexibility.
The main point here is that you can teach in many countries without a degree, provided you do have some other attributes or qualifications that employers are looking for.
One of the most important qualifications worldwide for EFL teachers is the TEFL certificate. If you have a certificate of at least 120 hours then you should be able to find a number of jobs available to you. You... [Read more]
Professional Development and the Future of TESOL Derek Rinaldo - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT
With communication technology and global economics making the world an increasingly smaller place, the need for a universal language is becoming increasingly important. Is it English' As a mono-language, more people on the planet probably speak Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, and maybe Spanish, but as a second language more people are learning English than any other language. Within the very near future, there will most likely be more speakers of English as a second language than native English speakers. Science and technology, and most business industries around the world are conducted with English as a common medium, reinforcing its own momentum. More people are traveling leisurely and professionally than ever before. Without at least a minimal grasp of English, if you travel... [Read more]

Difficulties for learners Lee Marshall - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT
I chose to write about difficulties for learners, and the country I chose was China. I realize that China is a huge country, so my opinions will only reflect on a small part of it, which is the Guangxi province, in southern China. Things may differ a great deal throughout the country. These are the problems I witnessed during my time here in Nanning. My sources were my friends and sister who are teaching here, and my own observations! The majority of the students here speak Mandarin, but many speak Cantonese, as well as local dialects. All of these languages do not use the Roman alphabet, so all of the students must learn an entirely new system of writing. I think this brings a whole new degree of difficulty to learning English for Chinese students, as opposed to a French,... [Read more]
Tefl article - TEFL Songs in the Classroom #359 - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT
'Red is rojo. Green is verde. Blue-Azul, Negro-Black'? As a high school student I opted to take a foreign language course in Spanish. Honestly, I do not remember a lot of the language (and I even took four years!), but what I do remember are those elements that were taught through the use of song. The example above is sung (and continues) in the tune of ?Are you sleeping?? In this same course we became familiar with a few popular Latin American songs; one such song was ?Amor Prohibido? by Selena. I may not be able to recall the meaning of all the words in the song, but I can still, nonetheless, successfully sing through the entire song with correct pronunciation. My experience and current research have shown me the immense power that songs can have in the... [Read more]
Tefl article - TEFL Songs in the classroom #358 - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT
The use of songs in the ESL classroom can be a fun and innovative way of covering a range of English language topics. Songs can be used for vocabulary, grammar, dictation, pronunciation (stress and intonation), phonetics, speaking, writing, listening, integrative skills, and many other ESL points. Furthermore, songs can invite the non-native speaker into the English speaking culture. For instance, pop music gives the learner a taste of what is trendy at the moment. Meanwhile, the lyrics to classic rock songs can give a sense of history and the attitude of the country at the time of recording (for example, ?Give Peace a Chance,? John Lennon, 1969). Additionally, children?s songs are crucially important for the young... [Read more]

English as a Global Language Richard Ridealgh - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT
I was inspired to write this piece because some weeks ago a little Spanish girl came to me and asked me why she should learn English' Why indeed! This essay will look at what in fact makes English a global language. Whilst restrained by the amount of words that are required for this part of the unit, I will try to include as much information as I can, however brief, to give the reader a more balanced view of this subject. The English language has become the language of choice throughout the world. Although it is not the most spoken language in the world (mandarin-Chinese) it is growing in popularity and soon, it is estimated, will be the most spoken language in the world. The English Language has become a 'lingua franca'. This is the term given to a language that is used for the... [Read more]
