In this TESOL review Anastasia from Russia describes her experience during the TESOL/TEFL course in Chiang Mai, Thailand. ITTT provides in-class TEFL/TESOL training courses in a wide variety of exciting and interesting locations worldwide including Thailand, Egypt, India, the Philippines, Vietnam, China, Argentina, Costa Rica, England, the USA, Italy, Spain, France and the Czech Republic.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
In this unit we saw two videos of examples of an ineffective lesson and an effective lesson. In the first video, the teacher made many violations of best practice, such as not learning students' names, not showing a positive attitude, not giving clear instructions, not appearing to know what he was doing next, and not encouraging student participation. In the second video, the teacher showed how to effectively do these same things. As a result of better teaching techniques and better attitude, the students in the second video lesson were much more engaged and participated more in the lesson.I have learnt that present tenses are still very difficult for a native English speaker to understand but with repetition reading of the course material it does become a little simpler to understand. The roles of verbs within the present tense and the forms of those verbs help to make understanding this subject such as present continuous verbs ending in \"ing\" much easier. in using the present simple tense, the situations in which this tense occurs, such as habits or routines, commentaries and permanent situation and facts make it easier to distinguish when this present tense is being used.
