TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Ben
Ben taught English in South Korea for four years before returning to his native California. In this TEFL review he describes how after returning home, he decided to seek out further qualifications in teaching English and found ITTT’s online TEFL course was the right one for him. Despite teaching English for several years, Ben found that the course had several new things to teach him including new methods and techniques.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
The goal of teaching pronunciation is not to teach learners to achieve a perfect imitation of a native accent, but simply to get the learners to pronounce accurately enough to be easily and comfortably comprehensible to other speakers. Let us take one of my teaching experiences for an example. When students find it hard to repeat long sentences and difficult to follow the pitch movement, in this case, I normally break the sentence down to bits and build up towards the complete sentence. Especially for young learners, this also makes pronunciation course quite enjoyable and not so stressful. What I have taken from the unit is that the modal auxiliary verb can/can't that has been presented is easier to teach in a conjunction with animals than on its own. Moreover, what I have seen is the approach of the teacher may change the atmosphere in the classroom to better or worse. A smile, aid of pictures and miming encourage students to participate more than just words with a face without expressions. This is because the teacher's attitude is easily passed on to students as well. Attitudes are contagious which proves to have a positive effect on students in the lesson two video sample.
