TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Eleanor
Eleanor took her 120-hour online TEFL course with ITTT. In her TEFL review video, Eleanor talks about how she found the course challenging but beneficial to her understanding of how to teach English as a foreign language and how to prepare lesson plans. Having completed the course Eleanor now feels fully prepared to teach English and recommends the course to anyone thinking of starting a career as an English teacher.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
Again, this particular unit required much more focus and critical thinking than some of the other units that seemed to be more common sense based on my experiences with teaching. However, I believe that as these units that deal with grammar progress, they are beginning to make more sense. Specifically, I think that my understanding of verbs has increased. While it is easy for me to identify parts of speech, applying that knowledge to sentence formation proves to be a bit more difficult for me. In this unit, I think the biggest takeaway would be my understanding of active and passive voice.I learned that receptive skills are listening and reading; and productive skills are writing and speaking. They are all equally important and even if the lesson is concentrated mainly on one type it's still better if at least a bit of learning of the other skill is also integrated into the lesson. There are various ways to get students to learn material and practice. Engage them and pick interesting topics. Also there are a number of ways to solve the possible issues that are likely to arise during the lesson: for example pre-learn some of the vocabulary to avoid very evident issues later.
