TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Ozlem
Ozlem from Turkey recorded this TESOL review video. Ozlem successfully completed the 120-hour online TESOL course with ITTT. During the course Ozlem learned many things to help her with her new teaching career. ITTT’s 120-hour online TESOL course covers a wide range of topics over a course of 20 units. All the units are designed to give trainees a solid grounding in teaching theory, teaching practice and language concepts. Topics include types of learners, teaching methods, classroom management, lesson planning, grammar, pronunciation and more.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
The chapter focused on teaching the productive language skills, speaking and writing. I do some writing in class but usually the students are in my training class to practice speaking. I check writing and give feedback as they do it for homework or in exercises. This is different in a public school system, but I don't like how this chapter starts about homework, \"which in turn is frequently not done and so the skill [writing] is never developed.\" The English class is just one opportunity to practice English. If the student isn't doing the full range of study and practice, it's up to them.I feel that I have learned more about the stages of language learning, the issues that teachers come up against and numerous things to be aware of when teaching language. It is vital to meet students where they are in terms of age, proficiency level, and cultural background. The relationship between teacher and student is extremely important to facilitate learning, and being considerate in creating that relationship can determine the how effective that relationship can be. It is also important to be mindful that there are different challenges teaching at different levels and different ages.
