TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Paul
Paul from Australia is currently living in Manila in the Philippines. Paul took the 120-hour online TESOL course without tutor from ITTT. In this TESOL review video, Paul tells us that he found the course to be challenging and rewarding and had a great time completing but feels it would have been better to take the course with tutor support. Since completing the course Paul has been able to observe ESL lessons at the local international school and is looking forward to starting his new career as a TESOL teacher.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit discusses strategies for managing a classroom. Strategies include the proper use of eye contact, gestures, classroom organization, teacher talk time, grouping students and more. This section taught me to brainstorm a variety of ways to keep students engaged. I learned the importance of my body language, the physical organization of the classroom and generally remembering to consider my relationship to the students and the students' relationships to each other. Working to keep everyone engaged and comfortable using the suggested strategies can help students learn more effectively.Understanding the culture in which you are teaching and building rapport with your students is vital. In this way you can assess the most effective methods of teaching and adopt the roles that are best suited to your learners. While you may naturally have a role that you prefer or excel in, such as the manager, this may not be the best way of motivating and teaching your class and so you will have to adjust and adopt slightly more unfamiliar roles. You must be willing to adapt and adjust these roles the longer you spend with students and the more time you spend immersed in the new culture.
