TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Sebastien Gingras
In this ITTT TESOL review video Sebastien from Canada talks about his experience during his four week TESOL/TEFL course in Chiang Mai, Thailand. ITTT's four week in-class training course will give you the necessary skills, confidence and ability to be an effective teacher of English. Our in-class course is offered in a variety of exciting locations throughout the world.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit was helpful because it covered conditional speech, which as a native English speaker I take for granted. It was a refresher course on the zero, first, second, third, and mixed conditional uses, something that comes naturally to me but of which I had forgotten the rules. It's useful to review and struggle with these concepts again. A little empathy with students and their struggles goes a long way to becoming an effective teacher. The reported speech vs direct speech had the same effect on me, i.e., a struggle at first and a good examination of why we speak with these rules in mind. This was a rather complicated unit dealing with conditional sentences, for example if X condition happens, then Y occurs. Based on that sort of guideline, it gets more complex based on the conditional from zero order up to mixed where identifying the differences can become a bit skewed. Reporting on previous dialog is also a skill I've never considered before, as reporting needs a very specific skill of comprehension. Taking into consideration when the information was heard, what tense it was said in, and who was saying it is all specific skills more suitable to an advanced level of English.
