TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Shem
Shem is from the USA and is currently living in Japan having previously taught English in Africa. In this TEFL review Shem tells how he really enjoyed taking the online TEFL course with ITTT and recommends the course with tutor support and videos as he found the videos to be really helpful in preparing him for what to expect in the English teaching world.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
Productive skills sound easier to teach than receptive skills because it puts more of the onus on students to perform. That would also mean that weak or shy classes will struggle more with practicing productive skills. When it comes down to it, writing and speaking are the really challenging parts of a language; reading and listening are relatively easy, and can be learned without interacting with other people, which makes it more appealing to students (or at least it did to my French class), so getting students to practice productive skills should be harder but, in the end, more rewarding. The unit explains the four forms of conditionals which are the zero condition which is used for stating facts that are irreversable, the first condition is used to state real situations that can be probable or uncertain, the second condition which refers to present hypothetical situations, the third condition used for past hypothetical situations and finally the mixed condition used for past hypothetical situation with a present consequence. The reported speech is used to refer to what someone else said or asked and it simpley requires taking a step back or backshifiting in all the verb tenses.
