TEFL Videos - TESOL TEFL Reviews - Video Testimonial - Stratton
After successfully completing the four week TEFL/TESOL certification course in Phuket, trainee Stratton shares his thoughts on the course in this TEFL review. He discusses some of the advantages of completing the in-class course and how the course has given him a strong foundation on which to build his future as an English language teacher.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
Unit 16 discussed conditionals and reported speech. The zero, first, second, third, and mixed conditional sentences were explained in their forms and usages. Correct speech reporting of direct speech was also broken down and explained. It was interesting for me to learn that backshifting is always ok in reported speech, and it makes sense to teach it as such. The teaching ideas for conditionals seem to be the most interesting and fun for grammar lessons thus far, in my opinion. Perhaps that is due to the cause and effect nature of conditionals. Interesting questions can posed to the students.English is L2 for me so I had to actually study the tenses to get to learn English. During this Unit I had the time to reflect, putting myself on the other side of the classroom, on how hard it is to explain them to people that are approaching English language for the first time or, worse, that got it wrong in the past. It is something that you tend to give for granted, you just know (hopefully) how to form a sentence. This will take time to sink in, and some teaching experience too. I was wondering whether it would be possible for us to receive some of the material from the \"teaching ideas\
