In this TEFL review an ITTT trainee shares her experiences of the fourth week of her in-class course. She found the course challenging, rewarding and fun. She believes that she now has a solid foundation on which to begin her teaching career. At ITTT our course materials and training methods are regularly updated to reflect the latest developments in language teaching and learning. ITTT's trainers are experienced and qualified professionals.
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
For many students, the ability to write is the most difficult to develop because they have to be more accurate. With this unit I have acquired new knowledge that can help me to improve my work and, consequently, facilitate learning to students. As mentioned in the unit, it must be added that when you are teaching in a country where handwriting and punctuation is totally different, there is a very important added difficulty to learn this skill. From my experience in Asian countries, I have learnt to improve every day to motivate my students so that they continue to learn as easily as possible. The content of this unit was fairly basic, but it was necessary to get a clear breakdown of TEFL terms and structures, as well as qualities of a good teacher and good students. I also found it helpful to relate my own ideas of what makes a good teacher with the ideas provided by this unit, and then to compare those ideas to the roles that a teacher should play for his or her class. Although I have recently been a student in a language class, I had never given extensive thought to the different jobs my professors and teachers had to execute in order to lead an effective learning environment.
